NDT Special Application Courses

1. Radiographic Film Interpretation (RTFI)

This course is designed for certified Level II RT personnel. Various codes and standards are included along with rigorous practice in interpreting a large number of radiographs containing natural defects.

Duration: 10 days

2. Ultrasonic Testing Applications

Level II A – Ultrasonic Plate Testing
Course covers Normal Beam Inspection, sizing, mapping and recording of corrosion, HIC and other flaws found in plates and pipes of various sizes.

Duration: 5 days*

Level II B – Ultrasonic Testing of Welds
Course covers Plate and Pipe butt weld examination as per ASME Section V and AWS D 1.1

Duration: 6 days*

Level II C – Ultrasonic Testing of Welds (TKY Joints)
This is a progressive training course. Admission to Level II C will require the candidate to pass the Level II A and Level II B. This course covers TKY weld examination as per API RP 2X.

Learn:

  • Construction of Beam Profiles
  • Construction of DAC Curves
  • Flaw sizing techniques
  • Transfer correction
  • Mode conversion effects
  • Testing UFD for Vertical and Horizontal Linearity
  • Selection of probes
  • Reserve Gain
  • Internal Reflectors Limit for probes
  • Construction of weld cross section involving curvature using profile-gauge and other methods
  • Estimating change of angle, beam-path, surface distance for curved surfaces
  • Construction of a Flaw Locating Rule for TKY Weld Inspection
  • Applying different acceptance criteria
  • Report preparation
Duration: 10 days*

Level II D – Ultrasonic Testing of Welds (Time of Flight DIffraction Technology – TOFD)

This new technique is considered ideal for thicker materials where RT may not provide reliable results. Combined with the ease of documentation and review of test results, TOFD is the choice of industries today.

This course is intended for candidates with experience in weld testing using conventional ultrasonics and certified as ASNT Level II/ ISNT Level II. Organized at NDTTECH, Kottayam.

Learn:

  • Theory of TOFD
  • Flaw detection, sizing
  • Review, Analysis and Interpretation of signals
  • Lateral Wave Synchronization
  • Calibration (velocity,Wedge Delay, TOFD and TCG)
  • Storage of A/B Scan Test Data
  • Encoder calibration
  • Post processing of C-Scan Data
  • Report preparation

TOFD equipment with flawed specimens and reference materials will be used for practical hands-on-training. Persons desirous of taking the TOFD training are requested to register at least one month in advance of the tentative schedule Click here and confirm.

Duration: 3 days

3. Ultrasonic Immersion Testing

Special training course using Automatic Ultrasonic Testing (Immersion Technique) Equipment with emphasis on:

  • Water path determination and adjustment
  • Generation and use of shear waves at the required angle by refraction at water/test object interface
  • Static/Dynamic Calibration
  • Adjustment of Gates to apply an Acceptance Criteria / required display pattern
  • Sound focusing and focused probes
  • Corrosion-survey
  • Use of squirter/bubbler systems
  • Determination of Test Coverage/Scan parameters
  • Probe zero and identification/elimination of possible error signals using filtering of test data
  • Determination and set up of Test/Display/Record parameters
  • Review and Analysis of the Digital Data Acquired after Test is completed
  • Report Generation
  • Understand an International Code/Specification used by the industry for Immersion Testing
Duration: 5 days
